if youve been to my house you know i already have one of these 8x10 "hillbilly family" photographic prints. it was interesting to see another one come up for auction this week. i was able to pick it up for $10.50 after another bidder ran up the price just before it closed. the first one had framers tape on the back indicating that it was sold at the elkins furniture and hardware co store in elkins w.virginia. the seller of this one is from s.carolina. they used textured paper and its a dark sepia tone. i think its a staged photograph with real mountain people and made with the intent to create prints for sale in the roadside tourist trade. i do wonder about the true identity of those guys though. id be very suprised to find out that theyre just actors.

i believe this image may be related to the above hillbilly group. its up to $18.00 now and is assuredly from a large commercial edition. btw the above hillbilly group picture was a slightly cropped, non-sepia toned and much later edition than my first purchase.

yeah, she does look like an actor and it tips the likelihood of the family above in that direction as well.
