the album covers of andy warhol
Warhol took the cover shot; though many assumed the model was Jagger, it has often been rumored to be a hanger-on at the Factory, Warhol's studio, named Joe Dallesandro. Then Braun realized there had to be an extra layer of cardboard to protect the record from the zipper; that layer features another Warhol shot of a different man, possibly the twin brother of Warhol's "boyfriend" and assistant Jed Johnson, this time in his jockey shorts.

Note that Warhol had nothing to do with the design of the Rolling Stones Records tongue logo, which has now become synonymous with the Stones themselves.

so who did design the tongue logo?

Also, Joe Dallesandro is an actor who has been in over 50 films--whatever their merits, it seems kind of cruel to call him a hanger-on at the Factory.

Where is Bill Wyman in that flash video? Sorry to always be pickin'. I don't know the song (heh); it does have a bass, though.

ah ha!

All was forgiven by the time [Ruby] Mazur returned with sketches of the logo they hired him to create. The famous red mouth and tongue was a caricature of Jagger. The singer saw it and pushed Mazur into the pool out of excitement.

"He loved it, and 35 years later here we are," Mazur says. He's locked in a legal battle with Jagger's people these days, suing for millions of dollars over royalties for his design dating to 1971. Album covers were a one-shot deal. No residuals.
