We have something to learn from Europe.

i thought this comment on the wrong mindedness of ocean liners is good :

A cruise ship, said Roberta Cohen, a co-director of the Brookings-Bern Project on Internal Displacement at the Brookings Institution in Washington, "is not a return to normalcy - it's some sort of 'first world' fantasy idea."

They are also breading ground for disease.

Remember when they wanted to put all NYC AIDS patients on a boat on the river? Stick them out there so we don't have to deal with it. Terrible.

The Dutch went through some terrible floods, including a loss of 1800 people in 1953. Their protection systems are now designed for a 10,000 year event. The New Orleans levees were designed for a 100 year event.
