i won this lot last night. it was at $51 and i bid $250.00 with two mins to go. that brought the bidding up to $54.00 but another bidder (williamsburghisbunring) pushed it up to $224.00 with one min to go but my overbid withstood. i think these collages may make good material for an alias installation that MB mentioned. the pages are 10" x 16".

"Offered here is an entertaining and unique photo album from Portland Oregon, with over 300 photographs and paper souvenirs on 95 pages. He was a local businessman with a home darkroom. She was on the board of the garden club. Together they documented highlights of their 1955 social calendar.
The first part of the album follows the activities of the garden club in photos, newsletters and newspaper clippings, and shows an evening lobster feed at the country home of friends. The rest of the album is a stupifying collection of candid shots taken at a dinner party and cocktail party. Many of the pages display photos creatively clipped and arranged in collage form, with some images replicated and reused to hilarious effect. Lots of drinking, smoking, raucous laughter, expensive furniture. Also included are a few full-page, darkroom-created birthday cards with alcohol and midlife themes, a half dozen baby pictures, and two snapshots of a dog wearing a hat and glasses.

Album in good overall condition- a few bent photos, minimal wear to cover. Photographic quality generally very good- better than these scans can show. Note: scanned examples shown here do not necessarily represent the true photo sizes, which run the gamut (many are in the 3x5 and 4x6 format, some are smaller or much larger, some are cut into odd shapes). All photos are pasted onto pages, with the exception of a few large prints that are pages in themselves. This album is big, measuring 16x10x3" and weighing 11.5 lbs packed. Your questions welcomed and thanks for looking."

there is some very weird cold war era repressed behavior going on here. up-skirt leg flashing, foot rubbing and peekaboo down-blouse camera angels. country club republican cocktail and cigarette fueled aberrant behavior mixed with a dark room, an enlarger and a pervy hobby collagist's eye and this is what you get.
