What are the "other" names for pop, soda. coke? Any of you folks from Bexar TX or Bernalillo AZ out there?
Growing up in Portland we always called it pop but soda has been gaining. As a side note sneakers have (thankfully) replaced tennis shoes

thats what i wondered too. in waco (home of dr pepper) a few of my fellow campers called it "sodie water" in their best and authentic texas hic accent. tom?

I heard sodie water growing up but it was mostly me and my ironic friends imitating hicks. As in "there he sat suckin' on a sodie water."

We had no business being smug, since "Coke" was used to mean "a carbonated beverage" (probably only before I moved to DC and got ridiculed.)

tom refers to growing up in midland tx. and only nut-jobs from the mid-west say pop. heheh it still kills me.

count the pacific northwest among your nut-jobs.

When I first made friends with some Americans I thought the use of 'soda' was hilarious and quaint, like in Archie comics! We say 'pop' or 'soft-drink.'

sorry about that nut-job crack.

You wanna a coke? Yeah. What kind of coke? Orange. No, no, grape.

And of course Steve is not a nut job. Or is he? Sneakers instead of tennis shoes, I don't think so mister.

Also, growing up, in Texas, I did not like "teasing" being used for "kidding." You're just teasing me? What? You're kidding, right?

i think its tenny shoes in tx.

the real shocker was standing or getting "on line" instead of "in line" when waiting for something in the north east. you know queuing.

Don't be sorry. I didn't spend 20 years in NY for no reason.
