I've been reading Schafer's The Soundscape--it's really great.
I knew Krause liked it (he has a plug for it on Amazon) but I didn't realize it had altered his career practice to the extent that it has.
I'm surprised the reporter didn't give Edmund O Wilson's thumbs up for Krause's theories bigger play.
It seems like the skeptics are given wide berth in the article.
Oh, well, the Times isn't a peer-reviewed bioacoustic science journal, can't expect too much.
This is the second article they've done recently on a music industry big shot who went back to school and became a scientist. The other was the "Beatles is all about timbre" guy.

And as for the mixtape article--the use of that kind of heavy state police power to protect private interests in a completely unsettled area of the law is disturbing.

Disturbing is a mild term for this. Since when do "victims" participate in the raid and collect evidence? RICO was enacted to deal with the mob, and now it's used against people who make music? Ceding power to the state is dangerous.
