What is modern, anyway? Is it classic 20th century (as in Modernism, with a capital “M”) or contemporary (modern with a small “m”)? The answer, of course, is both. And while you’re at it, why not add something really old to the mix? Who wants to live in a period room, even if the period is the 1960s?
crazy about the "cratelike" corbusier wood table/stool in the slide show

corbcrate

...reminded me of a wooden box I had seen years earlier in Paris at the Galerie Patrick Seguin. Le Corbusier had designed the "crate" for his rustic country shack near Cap d'Antibes. By coincidence, in an outdoor exhibition nearby at the Triennale, Corbu's summer hut and these crates were recreated in a clever prefab structure.

alternate crates

For some strange reason, I prefer the alternate crates, that were whacked together, to the lovely dovetailing on the Le Corbusier.

this is one of the originals. looks like they have simplified by half the dovetailing notches in the later version. crate creations looks like a great resource. not sure if they have to come name branded on the ends.

jasper morris (referred to in the photo link above) apparently has a big line of crates designed for the uk firm established and sons. more details on them here and here.

I like the way the B&H logo wraps around the box and appears to be straight from only one viewing angle. Oh, wrong thread.

Most apple boxes have just the one slot as on the Le Corbusier {minus the dovetailing. )
