We had that show in Canada years ago. (CBC goes to Britain a lot for cheap shows, Antiques road show being one of the big surprises in the ratings) The Secret Life of Machines was brilliant.

glad to hear he's actually in the loop. off and on we get the uk antiques road show. its better in many ways than the us version. like the uk office is so much better than us version. similarly we briefly got via bbca trailer park boys. bbca is on only few us cable networks and i only got it because i have comcast digital. they bleeped the Fucking Shit out of it. it drew very little attention here and was dropped after one season (season #4 i think). way, way too sophisticated for general us consumption.

Yeah, I still think it would be a sensation if it wasn't censored. "I got my fuckin' Grade 10 and you didn't." (Ricky)

Partly it's the anarchic appeal of the 3 Stooges, summed up by someone on Gilliard's blog as "if they can fuck up and act like total idiots, they *will* fuck up and act like total idiots."

I worship Ricky Gervais, and bought the Brit Office DVD's when they came out (and have all his Guardian podcasts), but I have to admit I really love the American version. The U.S. casting is so great that I do forget the original when I watch it.

Do American networks & basic cable automatically bleep out everything? A good friend of mine worked for the Life Channel here (fucking yawn) and we used to watch imports to figure out whether they could broadcast it in prime time or after 10 pm, when they don't have to bleep. (I was totally unhelpful with this, I never noticed, all sounded normal to me)

i think premium cable channels like hbo, showtime, etc relax language restrictions. the rest might as well be network w/ their censorship.

Turner Classic Movies is the only channel left on basic cable that doesn't protect gentle Americans from shits and fucks. Knock plastic TV top.

I have only watched TPBs via Netflix, uncensored. Am just getting up to season 4. I have only seen American Office a couple of times but think it stands alone pretty well. Of course, one of the episodes I saw was the one written by Gervais. I saw the second episode of that new show The Riches on what I think is a basic cable channel, with Eddie Izzard and I can't think of her name, sort of funny, but I would say the verdict is out whether it jells or not. They said shit a bunch.

Minnie Driver, it's on FX. I watched a little and didn't gel for me.
