walnut slab / edit : johns new table
nakashima inventory at modern gallery
baker hardwoods inventory
That’s an expensive slab there, financed by the juglone trade no doubt; Black Walnut is killing our young plants with its evil drugs… let’s cut the bastards down and make furniture!
I don't see the slightest problem with juglone (5-hydroxy-alphanapthaquinone).
Sincerely,
Canadian Hemlock

Modern auction this weekend in Lambertville
http://www.ragoarts.com/
after brief deliberation, it has been determined that this black walnut slab shall soon be a new dining room table at my brothers house. born in PA and to be wood worked in hoboken nj it will soon return to its native state with a new top surface finish, some simple undercarriage engineering and a tripod of splayed tapered dowel legs in the mid century modernist nakashima style. go john!
deposit check written last week. 6 to 8 week production time. should be done in july.
its going to be another couple of weeks to finish.
this is a tripod dining table, 7' (84") long by 4'4" (52") at the widest end. ebony bowties for strength and nakashima style taper legs scaled up a little for stability.
hand crafted by furniture maker thomas w newman of hoboken.
Coasters under that beer, NOW!
$$??
under $3 K. tom is known for his finishes. what appears to be an oiled surface is really a lite (masters touch) polyurethane surface which will not require beer coasters and will easily tolerate a good sponge down after a messy diner.
1K per pod
To be delivered by Bill's White Glove Overland Freight Service tomorrow!
