According to Pearl Jam's website, portions of the band's Sunday night set at Lollapalooza were missing from the AT&T Blue Room live webcast. Fans alerted the band to the missing material after the show. Reportedly absent from the webcast were segments of the band's performance of "Daughter," including the sung lines "George Bush, leave this world alone" and "George Bush find yourself another home."

So how shall we interpret this? According to the band, the explanation from AT&T was to blame the censorship on their "content monitor." Blaming a junior staffer is the standard excuse when an organization, such as a political campaign, wants to avoid taking responsibility for a policy or action that leads to something bad or embarrassing, and so fobs the bad deed off on some junior person to take the fall.

like with abu ghraib! the directive comes from the top. rank and file gets caught. the top blames a few bad seeds in the rank and file. totally unaccountable.

Hey, I totally buy their story. Think about it -- an audio guy. We all know what they're like -- button down, clean cut, Southern Republican, -- yet they've memorized the lyrics to The Wall. You know the type.

Totally plausible.
