More than 35 years after they recorded their first album (released only as an 8-track tape), The Flatlanders -- Texas singer-songwriters Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Joe Ely and Butch Hancock -- are back together.

adman and i saw butch and jimmie duet at maxwells hoboken late 80's or early 90's. joe and jimmie have vital careers. butch writes a whole lot of music that the other guys cover in solo careers. untill a cd was reissued late 80's the original "record" was only ever available as an 8track.

saw JDG with townes van zandt opening for him at the bottom line. not long before TVZ died. also saw JDG in the winter garden WFC w/ david byrne and natalie merchant helping out. (that wasnt the best go round for him.)

They been playing together at the Birchmere in Alexandria, VA for last couple of years.
