I really, really like 19" rack mount cabinets. An outdoor unit could help acheive the compromise between well-organized electronics and a non-industrial look to the living room. (Very few houses have a proper telco closet/server room.) I could totally picture one of the shorties in the crawl space just below the living room video equipment.
