I never sign in to the Times for the same reason. I like the wall analogy. I signed in once with a phoney email address but then tossed the cookies. It bugs me that they are trying to garner email addresses, but just the annoyance of signing in is enough to keep me away. But your explaination of how they use the double click cookie has me reconsidering my reluctance, it is my NY rag of choice.
