The hallmark of Lotus (where they got the chassis) is light, light, light. In the early days (before all that CAD stuff) the approach was: "Lighten each part until it breaks, then add a little back".
I'm sure the Tesla will weigh much more (despite a carbon fiber skin) than the comparable Lotus Elise. The wikipedia page claims 2700 lbs. This page lists different weights for the Elise ranging from 1635 to 2019 lbs.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Teslas at the track. Rather than lugging a generator to recharge between sessions, the owners will probably just rent a garage space with power for the weekend.
