Food notes from NOLA:

Had a late breakfast at Mother's. They were kinda busy, but not mobbed. It's cold enough that the line was inside.

My one suitcase did not make the transfer from my car to a friends car for the ride to the airport. While I was off doing something else, D and a friend managed to move her three suitcases from the backseat of my car, but missed my bag in the trunk. So I traveled with a laptop computer, a cell phone, and not much else. Today I did a little more propping up of the local NOLA economy than I had originally planned to do.

For a late lunch, we stopped at the Whole Foods in Metaire (across from Lakeside Mall), which is a good spot for ready-to-eat. They had about 4 different seafood soups/chowders/bisques, 6 seafood salads (including the crawfish salad I had). Also available were red beans & sausage, jambalaya, tex-mex grits, and many other regional item. I wish my local Whole Foods carried some of these dishes.

While D was waiting on a slice of pizza, a sample pizza was put up, and was snarfed up very quickly. One customer wedging in to get a piece of the pie asked another, "Are there 'bugs on it?". The reply was "Sure are". D wasn't quite sure what to make of it, but recalled me referring to crawdaddies as "mudbugs", and concluded that must be what they were talking about.

Sadly, I wasn't in the area at the time, and missed out the mudbug pizza samples.

Tonight we ate August, near Harrah's. Awesome food, start to finish. More later.
