Was lucky enough to be taken to Gotham Bar and Grill last night. I've actually never been before (also Union Sq. Cafe, but that's another post.) Food was great. The room is very nice if a little bit 80's. But what really got me was the crowd. Wednesday night at 8:00 and the place was rocking. Completely packed. And it ain't cheap. Good for them.

The chef owner said in the NYTimes Weds that bizz was down 15% so far 2009.....I was there Tues to pick some people up from lunch and they loved it too....I have allways thought it very good as well....what did you eat that you liked so much??

p.s. how full was the room when you left and at what time did you leave??

It seemed at least 90% full from when we got there until we left. Not sure exactly when that was - maybe 9:30ish.

I had: Fennel Soup warm goat cheese, granny smith apple and red beets followed by Masala Spiced Free Range Chicken basmati rice, lime yogurt and toasted cashew curried chicken reduction. We drank two bottles of a California Pinot that our host picked which were actually very nice. (Looking at the list I think it was this one: Saintsbury "Brown Ranch" 2006.)

we actually left around 10:30 and yes I agree about 90% full. I had a seafood salad that was amazing (yet very vertical) and a yellow tail tartare to start - again great.
