I get it from a small roaster. He started at farmers markets and now expanded to running a coffee shop as well. Bustelo was an EV favorite in the day. 8 o’ was my moms choice. There was a grinder at the AnP

i remember the grinder. they did a good job marketing that because im sure other supermarkets must have had them too but i cant specifically recall. we werent a&p shoppers though there was one in my town. my parents really did drink the swill instant. my mom drank mostly diet soda for her caffeine though maybe avoided it for the most part entirely and my father either got some diner coffee on the way to work or drank it at the office if at all. they werent heavy consumers.

i drank bustelo briefly at some point before buying beans from the roaster in providence in the early 90s. new york was a big step down for years until it got its coffee game together. i guess puerto rico was always an option.

I’ve heard Puerto Rico referenced since they opened. I also knew a guy in the 00’s that home roasted with shipment's of green beens from sweet Maria’s. A common home roasting hack is to use a popcorn popper from Salvation Army but requires adequate ventilation.
