Michelin awards 2 stars to 18-seat cafe in a Brooklyn grocery store
By The Associated Press (CP) – 4 days ago
NEW YORK, N.Y. — An 18-seat cafe in a Brooklyn grocery store has won two stars from the prestigious Michelin Guide to New York.
Michelin Guide director Jean-Luc Naret calls the Chef's Table at the Brooklyn Fare grocery "one of the 300 greatest" restaurants in the world.
It melds French technique with Mediterranean and Japanese cuisines.
The price of the tasting menu isn't quite as humble as the surroundings: $135 per person.
Cesar Ramirez tells The New York Times he never expected the honour.
But the chef and partner is glad New York's Brooklyn borough is getting recognition. Says Ramirez: "It's always about Manhattan."
Ramirez says he's eternally grateful to his mentor. David Bouley's restaurant got one star in the guide

Best Taco NYC (and up there for world)....while no expert on where other good taco's are, had some in Merida once, the fish ones we good at Bonita in Willy'sBurg past, folks speak of the goat ones on 10th ave in the high 40's....

Well a Mexican clan of folks whom have a place on Playa del Carmen, I am veggie these day so had only the two offerings (corn and peppers winning), but the meat looked and smelled great. The design while cool might not handle a rush well. Met the super nice owner (whom bought me a taco), and it looks like he brought all the staff with him....

Long Island City diner M. Wells isn’t open for dinner yet (still no liquor license!), and the spot’s current schedule is about to change. Starting September 7, the restaurant will cut back its breakfast hours and open at 10 AM instead of 7 AM every day except Monday, when it’s closed. Service lasts until 4 PM. The owner’s reason? As per its newsletter – “We need to sleep.”

The spot is also dishing out some wild mushrooms from foragers Gérard Mathar and Catherine Jacob, who do their thing on the Gaspé Peninsula in Québec. Not only will these ’shrooms be worked into dishes like slow-cooked rabbit saddle with handmade pappardelle, you can also purchase them along with other unique ingredients such as balsam fir and labrador tea to use at home (718-425-6917).
