On last nights antique roadshow an appraiser was, well appraising a victorian icewater pitcher. he described it as heavily decorated with geometric pattern and then I missed the term he used, I believe it was latin. He clarified it as (i believe) "vacume fear", The compulsion to fill space. Any one hear are are familar with the actual term ?

""It may come as a suprise to pregnant mothers but many of the oders and falvors to which they are exposed are also experienced by the fetuses. The ability to smell begins aroung 28 weeks.....throughount the 3rd trimester she could smell almost everything that mom ate or inhaled, perfume, exhaust, soup at lunch....One Isreali report even noted that mothers who ate strongly spiced food shortly before going into labor gave birth to "peculiar-smelling newborns."".....off to dim sum....

ran across this page of nyc history links while trying to find a picture of the church on east 3rd between a and b. looks like they are just about finished restoring the dome to its original copper finish. guess i need one of them new fangled digitized picture recording devices. then i could astound you with images of that and of the new bar on allen st named after the infamous argentine estrella de futbol, Diego Maradonna. yet for some reason i didnt see any tvs for watching the game. maybe they are forthcoming.

also, anyone been to loreley yet?

Please welcome a new addition to the Tree: Sally McKay's weblog. Sally is an artist based in Toronto, who will be covering the art scene there (among other things); she was an editor for several years of the now retired art magazine Lola. Some of you met her at a recent Tree-related event, during her visit to NY. I recommend her writing and take on things: you can add her page to your front page in [subscriptions].

Oh, and "McKay" is pronounced like why rather than whey, because of diverging Scottish bloodlines.

BOOGIE NYC

Under the plan, the city would issue "nightlife licenses" to clubs and bars that meet certain qualifications, Dykstra said. Nightlife establishments that serve beer or food would need a two-year license if they were:

_ Located in a residential or mixed-use neighborhood.

_ Had a capacity of more than 75 people.

_ Played music at a level above 90 decibels.

_ Remained open past 1 a.m.

Establishments in commercial, manufacturing and certain mixed use zones would need a capacity of more than 200 _ along with the other factors _ to require a license.

George Soros, one of the world's wealthiest financiers and philanthropists, has declared that getting George Bush out of the White House has become the "central focus" of his life, and he has put more than $15m (£9m) of his own money where his mouth is.

"That special something is the Blue Moon, an eight-story, 22-suite hotel that Settenbrino hopes will honor the soul of the building and the neighborhood’s immigrant past by retaining the original tenement’s facade and fire escape design, and mixing elements of the old interior with simple, luxurious rooms that have a period feel. On the ground floor, Settenbrino is even planning a kosher restaurant specializing in immigrant fare (complete with takeout window to lure the neighborhood’s younger, cooking-impaired residents)."

finds:
like learning that nyc is full of schist, giant garnets can and are found, as they move it around

me top 3:
one was amsterdam in 1981, would have been nice kabul 1975, but this city was so amazing to me, like the crossroads of the crossroads, the jacket i bought there ruined by touring could be today a museaum piece, but i still have a burial piece from a low caste egyptian, cool, and the memory of that town, grateful dead playing in a hash bar, milk trucks del'n herion to adicts, shops that sold stuff that make ABC look like pottery barn.....

two was 1983 living on this island on lake atitlan funny site to me this atitlan.com, hotels on atitlan?? long before tourism, i was there when the first "road" was built, everyone was "excited" this machine was coming, a boat droped off a "steam roller" that made a road, it cut a strata into the island's maya civalization, i only kept a quetal head and a spear-tip, we could have opened a store in amsterdam on what was available

three was atlantic ave 2003, linda and i found a piece that inho s/b returned somewhere, i have never seen a piece like this, a real temple object, maybe linda, ryley and i will drop it somewhere?? would it not be correct that every object be returned to its original spot, lets start all over, try our best to re-create the begining..... find life!! love it!! its goes away to be re-found by fools like me/us....:>)
