  • certain people who claim to not watch movies might want to think about making an exception for "My Architect" because certain people really would get a kick out of it. just saw it last night and thought about the Schwarz page the entire time.

  • i dont really keep hard fast movie watching rules but i dont tend to appreciate fiction based cinema. there are plenty of exceptions. im crazy about documentary films but if they are shot in video then id just as soon wait for it to hit cable. ive caught the filmaker on npr and expect its a fine piece of work. thanks for the heads up. did the filmaker come off ok? (possible whiner factor in there)

    • I liked My Architect too.
I was pretty surprised by a lot of his life.
...And what a life. (As a side note, I know an architect who had a child with a woman he barely knew. They have decided to raise the child together, but not in any kind of "conventional" way. He said to me recently, "I want to take C (the mother) to see the movie - so she knows what she can expect from me." No comment).
Speaking of documentaries, did you hear the news:

"It was the first documentary to win the top prize since Jacques Cousteau's The Silent World in 1956.

The film received a 15-minute standing ovation when it was screened on Monday.

Fahrenheit 9/11 explores the Iraq war and alleges connections between President George W Bush and top Saudi families, including the Bin Ladens."

    • "i want to take..." ouch (ouch, ouch, ouch)

now that the documentary genre has developed subcategories (ie mockumentary etc) moore deserves a brand name for 'what-ever-you-call-what-he-does-umentary".

    • that is an owie story. The saddest thing is that the women in the scenario did not have nearly the same degree of personal fulfillment through work as Lou Kahn, but made him (and his absence) the central focus of their lives. mistake. Like your architect friend, I also took the film as encouragement to put life work on a higher rung of the priority ladder than relationships. But I don't have a child to be absent from.

Michael Moore is a populist leftist (sadly rare). That said, I suggest: Docu-ganda-tainment.

  • He did, although it was borderline in places. It's an usual film full of clichés (Beethoven's 9th, for example) that somehow come across just fine. It seems almost a fluke that it's any good, but it is.

movies sports news and *chagrined* entertainment culture. i was so engaged in the bob newhart retrospective on a&e last night that i missed the daily show. (if only i had tivo. oh, wait..) i havent even found comedy central on the remote yet.
