"The show just lost its creativity and this was best evidenced by the fact that they couldn't come up with standup anymore, when in fact, that was the original basis of the show--where a comedian gets his material from..."
I guess that was my point last night.

Seinfeld vs David

what exactly was your point with S v D.

If you watch curb youll find the same drop dead material with david writing for himself as himself instead of george. the model for the long run, (what ten seasons?) was struck in a show during the first season of seinfeld when jerry and george pitched an idea to a network about a sitcom about nothing. they would soon deemphasise jerrys summariel standup bits at the beginning and end of every show.

My point was that it started as Seinfeld's show--a TV version of his stand-up "observational comedy"-- and was eclipsed at some point by the Larry David "George the Loser" dynamic.

And now everyone calls it Larry David's show.

it was always a show about jerry's gang. an ensemble. he had the nice apartment, car and happening career. seinfeld and david developed the show together. david helped cast the mold, stayed around for a while writing and then left. i think george was a break away character because he was channeling davids best clueless self effacing shticks. "what! was that wrong?!" in other words shamelessly giving himself (george) his best bits. or, naturally writing better about what (who) he knows. stand-ups need good writers. pretty boy seinfeld was a better stand-up, david the better writer. as far as whos saying what. david has the podium and seinfeld seems retired to the hamptons.
