why people hate americans

the ostentatious lifestyles of the rich and famous flourish as we continue to tax shelter our wealthiest citizens, penalize the neediest and overburden the middle class.

Barbara Butler, an artist and playhouse builder in San Francisco, said her sales are up 40 percent this year, and she has twice as many future commissions lined up as she did this time last year. Not only that, but the average price of the structures she is being hired to build has more than doubled, from $26,000 to $54,000.

shit is this me bill, do you & other others hate me?? cant say I am rich and famous only in a tiny wine circle but yes on tract to spend 20K for a rustic tree house, though much of that is labor and if it aligns it puts 2 people to work that can use work.....no tax shelters yet, except that w/ no income so far in 2011 I have no tax to shelter

no hating on you bro. wasnt aware of your plans and i wouldnt want to quash others employment opportunities. its just my perspective. we built our tree houses for free w salvage lumber in the nearby woods and the like. this post wasnt directed towards you, but i would seriously ask you to rethink dropping 20k on a playground for the kids (enough $$$ to build/buy a real house). I know this can be done satisfactorily for 1/10th of that with some adjustments. but its your dough and none of my business how you spend it. this is a just a general posting about my po'd reaction to the people in the nyt article.

my point on tax shelters was directed towards our republican brothers and sisters. without digging too far i add this.

well for god sake have them make it big enough for an adult to stand up in. you all may want a retreat of your own to hide out in sometimes.

And yes we hope it comes in way below 20K, 20K was for the experts to come in and built it like there resort, http://www.treehouses.com/treehouse/treesort/home.html, this included per diem and lodging here, so by using local talent we hope for less....

    • the price was quoted for a southern oregon crew, per diem, lodging, hourly rate, and all materials @ 20K or less.....using a local crew it should be less, the one issue making sure the base is done to the spec's

      • Yes, the base is key. The rest seems to be joists, studs and siding. Compound mitered angles involved, but all in all pretty straight forward.
