With just a few weeks left in 2002 I have after a 3rd stunning meal at Jewel Bako, decided to give it my #1. Each year we dine at three spots on the last few days of December. This years picks are a return to Fresh, Kai for the first time, and a long awaited meal at Honmura An (I have wanted to go for years but have sadly never made it, my food guru gives it one of the top 5 overall restaurants in NY over the last 20 years).

Do you remember any of the wine list? Gems? (Of course, it's probably different by now...)

i hear it has changed, we drank a Brovia Barolo cheap but it was way too young, look for foreau vouvray's.....

Oh my god the foreau vouvray is dry.

Nice meal. Staff still seems a little undertrained. They are anxious to help though.

Translucent diver scallop app was the best thing by far.

In the January Gourmet mag that arrived today was an article on Fresh.....they were mostly possitivo but did say "not inexpensive" and "cooking tends to be solid rather than refined", and they didnt like the clams (neither did I last time), but lots of praise on many a dish (I am ready for the "prime rib" of swordfish with creamed spinish and fried shallots)....lovely picture of sea urchin and cavier in fennel froth with orange oil (wasnt there when I went)....

  • You eating swordfish? Your argument against eating it is what got me to quit.

We all loved it last night, I felt it was more expensive than before and the sub'd tuna for toro on the dish I loved first time and price was up:<(.....service was a hair off, the app's more better to me, wine list less exciting a hair....our guests have had 4 meals in NY and rated them like this, Summer said Town, Baltazar, Fresh, Picholine while Phil said Fresh, Picholine, Baltazar, Town....
