went to Cuba recently and had some mojito's and it was the finest drink i have ever had,(rum is my favorite alcohol). i had them at La Bodeguita del Medio a Hemingway hangout, they were so light airy refreshing and strong--yummy. food was poor for me but pig eaters would prob find some yummies or seach out the private restaurants, 12 seats or less in someones home. they are called paladares. i mostly lived on rum.

Got a guess at the ingredients in a Mojito? Are we going to be brewing them up this summer?

    • They make those caipernnia's at Barramundi (yeah, I know, they make them everywhere now, but Barramundi was early NYC adopter of that drink craze.) They have some special sugar cane like liquid that is supposedly the secret (and used to be hard to come by here, although not anymore.) I wonder if that stuff is involved? I'll get the brand name next time I go in.

      • Q : for Weels, What Brands of rum are from cuba? Any aged material ? Rum does rule : With tonic and lime, friut juice, cuba libre (coke and lime), poured over flan on a plate, on the rocks with a lime twist or up served in a snifter. I like the Mount-Gay from Barbados and you can get it aged. Bourboncourt(sp?) is from Haiti ?

        • the brand in cuba is Havana Club and you can buy the 7 year at various duty frees around the world--have you tried the Clement for Martinique(sp?) or a could other brands where you can get great ($$$) old stocks--Martini gue rums are made like Pitu and other brazilian (my spelling is bad i am not even try to spell it--and i sold 100's of cases:>(--they are made from sugar cane juice not molassas which makes most rum--Mount Gay has a special rum only available in Barbados i had a bottle think its calles XO (a cognac term)... Bourbon court(sp?) is haiti and i think also its a cane juice product..
