I don't know whether or not microwaves destroy nutrients any more than any other heating method. That issue aside, I just can't think of "microwaving" as "cooking", any more than I would think of "spreading peanut butter on a slice of bread" as "cooking". If I was forced to live with just one cooking appliance, I'd rather have a toaster oven or an electric skillet.

Alice Waters was on Bill Maher's show tonight. He tried to get her to say that microwaves are evil, but she wouldn't put it that way. She had the same reaction as me, "It's not cooking." She wants fire.

I've visited the web page for the cookbook, and read some testimonials from people, including someone who's a care giver for someone with Alzheimer's. Now I feel like a douche. But, still, whatever it is, it ain't cooking.

Maher, who has strong views on the industrialization of food, was confused by the rosemary in the basket of fresh produce that Waters brought for him. Dude, cook!
