The Lodge was so luxurious, it was hard to tear ourselves away for what promised to be more spartan accommodations at the MacFadden cabin. Steeling ourselves, we proceeded to buy up every gourmet food item and bottle of wine in the county, and headed up country.

It was a beautiful drive past the scenic Bridger Mountains, and across high plains, but we were hardly prepared for the final approach when the Smith River valley opened up and almost swallowed us, as we wound down the switch-backs to the cabin at the bottom of the canyon.
