There is a pleasure in viewing a landscape from afar, and a complementary pleasure in moving through it. When these disparate viewpoints are reconciled, then you really know the country. In this case, we didn’t. With uncertain prospects, we descended into deep places, only regaining confidence upon the discovery of the sacred teepee which had obviously been constructed there as a sign for us.
