Bill, you are probably the right person to ask. I am having the hardest time finding info on floating roof decks. (I have to put another deck on top of my front porch after the new roof is finished)
we had flat roofs on my old apartment building and had a lot of trouble with poorly designed rook decks. we had to replace a huge limited access common area deck that was nailed directly into the roof. we wound up making smaller free standing (removable) pallet sections with foam pads underneath to protect the membrane. you would still need to work out guard and hand rails though.
I heard about the foam pads being necessary. My carpenter is going to build the frame and attach it to the front wall of the house, but we were looking for some precise instructions on the type of foam pads for the contact areas, could not find a damn thing on line.
(the nails in the deck from over 20 years ago are what got me into this mess)
Those pre-cast trench drains are sweet, but are entirely useless without being properly installed in a bed of concrete. Think of them as the "inside form".
