we are enjoying under $20 lunch of duck rillettes crepe, acorn squash soup and pressed andouille, mushroom and manchego sandwhich from Paradou Marche- new take out place in Essex Market. Yum and cheap. Also have take home meals like coq au vin, cassoulet, pork tenderloin with merguez choucroute for under $12. Only drawback market closes early and on Sunday.

Best Vegan Meal in NYC??

Bar Masa.....not cheap but was a vegan meal front to back, highlights included a muchroom roll crusted in winter truffle, spicy cucumber tataki, winter root veggie and seaweed salad, and the best yuba I have ever tasted "Masa's mother overnighted it from her favorite producer".

Its a Hangawi + food experience....

Tried new Momofuku on 2nd and 13th- features something called Ssam which look like wraps- had excellent uni with whipped tofu and black tea tapioca pearls, roasted cauliflower, and a sliced American cured ham (they feature 3). Same interior style and small menu- the ony repeat I remember is the steamed pork buns.

THE TRY FECTOR
1/2/3) Locanda Vini Olii, Clinton Hill Brooklyn.....the best Italian food in NYC IMHO, I allways eat way too much but its impossible to not want to pig out here, spring menu here is grand cru....
1/2/3) 11 Madison Park....I find the food fantastic, almost every dish.....clean, flavorful, and just rich enough.....love the room
1/2/3) wd~50.....this years awesome gaspacho almost beet out the first version and is of course tied for "dishs of the year", lots of other amazing new treats came out from the lab in 06, sadly I do have to say I miss Sam Mason in the dessert department (his new place will be on this top 10 in 07 for sure)

cured ham 18 lb leg retailing for $320

the spanish table

j
amon imberico

Until now it has been unavailable in the U.S. Finally last fall the first producer in Spain was approved by the U.S. Government to export Iberico products to the U.S. Of course it takes a couple of years to produce a Jamon, so we are taking deposits on the scarce first shipments which will arrive in 2007-2008.

5) Sripraphai (aka Super Thai) 6413 39th Ave, Woodside....here is also tied for "dishs of the year"; fried soft shell crabs and fried watercress salad apps, both amazing....this place makes for great leftovers, sauces rock....it is spicy, $10-$15 corkage, bring very fruity wine, I like to order "medium spicy" to be wine friendly...GO!

6) Trestle on Tenth 24th corner 10th Ave.....love this place for the well priced "natural" wine list plus the hearty food...love the crepinette which is tied for "dishs of the year", lamb saddle, ribs, and at lunch the chicken Vol au Vent is not to be missed.....
