"Here is another wonderfully simple and interesting painting by Fergus Henderson. This painting is the most colorful one I have seen with the exception of his night scene paintings. The composition is more complex than usual and yet still so clear. I especially like the play between negative and positive spaces, the sofa chair and the side table. One can even make out which burner is on by looking at the stove knob! I am guessing, by the title of the painting, it is a scene of a family home on a Sunday afternoon with the soft-boild eggs over the stove. There are two empty plates set so I imagin they will have lunch soon. It is painted on a canvas stretchers, acrylic and measures 11" x 14" x 3/4". The composition is wonderful, simple, and clear."

I think the title of the piece, "Dreams of You and Those Nashville Nights," gives some hints as to the mood of this painting, a bit melancholy, perhaps a faded love. "I first met Mr. Henderson while living in Tennessee. He displayed some of
his paintings at a local coffee store and that is how I came to find his
work. I usually prefer more modern paintings, but loved his simple and
charming story-telling paintings. I purchased two paintings from him, that
was 1997, I think. He should be in his 50s now and paints more as a hobby
than anything else. I know he did take some art classes and I think he still
takes some non-credit art classes at the local university. He was really
surprised when I sold some of his paintings and couldn't believe anyone
would be interested in his simple little paintings."

I like that everyone depicted (cat included) is in profile, excepting the owl...
i think thats the new yorker "talk of the town" owl? we liked the paintings on face value. it strikes a balance of schooled unschooled. the people and the geometry. the colors. no real put off in the descriptions. my friend richard watches this section of ebay and he thinks these are the nicest things to come down the pike in a long time. he (folkfinder) didnt win it though. he also has never heard of henderson prior to this group and there was no web history outside of ebay and me (now).
note the uncanny likeness to one bill traylor, a six figure dead/outsider artist.

"Okay, I think this one is my new favorite F. Henderson painting. First, this one is much larger in size: 14" x 18" x 3/4"d and depicts my favorite type of dining experience. This is another wonderfully simple and interesting painting by Fergus Henderson. There is so much to see in this work with all the different types of dishes, juke boxes, people, and other details. The sign at the door says "Doris' Diner 700" and looks like a great place to have a meal. Perhaps, I will have "Meat & 3." The composition is much more complicated than his other paintings with so much more details, but (much like the garage painting) still has the clean, simple quality with just the needed lines and colors. The colors are so bright and more colorful than his other paintings. It is painted on a canvas stretchers, acrylic paints. This painting measures: 11" x 14" x 3/4"d. and depicts an auto service center, art deco looking garage with a mechanic working on a car on a lift, tires on the wall, fire extinguisher, a red tow truck parked outside, and other interesting details. This composition is more complicated than his other paintings, but still has the clean, simple quality with just the needed lines and colors. There are certain repeated patterns again like the gas price sign which mirrors the windows, tow truck crane with the open hood. I think it is a fun painting . these came up for bidding on ebay. i believe they were all collected by the seller. a outsider art collecting friend tipped me off to fergus henderson. the collector friend found him by watching ebay outsider art auctions. many were bought by a single collector from france. wait heres one now!

hard to say. this is the same seller thats been putting pieces up for auction. its the only place ive ever seen his work. my friend tried to contact the seller but he was not too forthcoming about how got the pieces. i think he said he bought them in a book store. i love this work. i think hes from your area. if you can find out anything pls feel free to come back and post the info. i think this guy could be one of the greats of our time. read through the texts above for a little more info. its been a while sine ive looked into this subject. sorry to have missed any that may have come up since the original post. i had gotten the impression that the seller had sold out his stock but heres one now. at $150 but the reserve has not been met yet. watch this seller he may be the only real link to FH.

Some time ago, I noticed a few paintings by fergus henderson and shared my interest in these will Bill. We both thought right away that his work was special. As Bill mentioned, i think this is some of the most intersting outsider work to come down the bay in a while - by either known or unknown outsiders. I missed a couple of earlier works of his sold on ebay but didn't miss this one. I'll post again once I see the painting in person.
