Paul Shaffer Hosts All-Star Musical Tribute to Mike Smith
CBS Orchestra bandleader Paul Shaffer is organizing a benefit concert for Mike Smith, lead singer of the Dave Clark Five, who was permanently disabled in an accident in 2003 in his home in Spain.
A Tribute to Mike Smith will be held on Tuesday, August 2nd at B.B. King Blues Club and Grill in New York City @ 7:30pm.
The Zombies will be headlining the concert, which will also feature performances by such iconic 60s rockers as Billy J. Kramer, original Moody Blues lead singer Denny Laine (performing the classic "Go Now"), Peter & Gordon (reuniting for the first time in 35 years), and more.

The issue remains in the news thanks in large part to an advocacy group named Landmark West, which went to court to fight the redevelopment and discovered emails between current landmarks commission chairman Robert Tierney and Laurie Beckelman, a former chair of the very same commission who now works for MAD as a kind of "fixer," ushering the 2 Columbus Circle redevelopment through the city approvals process. Camouflaged in the color of blue sky, an unmanned balloon was launched last month on a simple mission: to capture with its dangling camera the view from 1,400 feet above the future site of the Freedom Tower. The idea was to show potential tenants how much of the world they would see out of their office windows if only they would sign on the dotted line.
"Among the most unusual features, however, are the outdoor teaching spaces scattered around the perimeter of the building where honed black granite walls provide “blackboards” so that science classes can be conducted with a traditional teaching wall, allowing for the cultural tradition so closely identified with Swarthmore’s humanities departments where outdoor classes and seminars have been taught for decades."
As part of these endeavors Solomon has curated "If I Owned the Trenton Bath House," an exhibition that poses this hypothetical question to leading area architects, designers, and other interested parties. Their answers - essays and visual renderings - comprise the exhibit, along with historic photos of the building, at Art's Garage at 326 4th Avenue in Ewing. The show is on view through Thursday, September 22.

I was struck dumb the first time I saw one of Cady Noland's corroded milk crates filled with useless automotive junk. No knowledge of Dada paved the way to that encounter or mitigated the powerful sense of abjection radiated by her distressed container, into which she had tossed a couple of Bud empties, some oilcans, and a "dead" rubber chicken. It wasn't the "shock of the new," as Robert Hughes described the riveting and alienating force of early-20th-century art. Rather, it was precisely because I thought I was on familiar ground that the rupture of the unexpected was so acute.
