Ominous reports are leaking past the BP Gulf salvage operation news blackout that the disaster unfolding in the Gulf of Mexico may be about to reach biblical proportions.

251 million years ago a mammoth undersea methane bubble caused massive explosions, poisoned the atmosphere and destroyed more than 96 percent of all life on Earth. [1] Experts agree that what is known as the Permian extinction event was the greatest mass extinction event in the history of the world.

After extensive research I'm going to say that Zaitzeff has the best burgers in the East Village. And not that I would know this from personal experience or anything, but they deliver in a huge radius, and the burgers actually travel well. The house made Portuguese bun is key.

Urbani Truffles Opens in New York
Glass vases are piled with truffles in the windows of the sleek new American headquarters of Urbani Truffles. It’s a combination showroom, demonstration kitchen and sales office, like the one Urbani runs in Umbria, Italy, near Spoleto. And it is open to shoppers, who will find an array of truffles. The only fresh ones in season now are the big summer truffles on display, black outside, taupe inside, with a scent like white truffles. There are truffle products of all kinds, including oils and paste. A delightful newcomer is a line of truffle sauces in eight combinations: white truffles with white mushrooms or porcini; and summer truffles with artichokes, tomatoes, mushrooms, cream or red or green pesto. Though a mere six ounces, each can provides enough deeply flavorful sauce for two to four servings of pasta. The sauces can also be stirred into risotto or served with grilled meats, fish or eggs.

Urbani Truffles, 10 West End Avenue (60th Street), (212) 247-8800, urbanitrufflesonline.com. Truffle Thrills pasta sauces are $9.95 for 6.1 ounces.
Germany's 'Octopus oracle' keeps perfect record

It won't come as much of a consolation to heartbroken German fans, but at least Paul, Germany's now world-famous "Octopus oracle", has maintained his perfect record.
The "psychic" creature has correctly predicted all six of Germany's World Cup games and, amid excruciating drama broadcast live on national television on Tuesday, plumped for Spain, causing anguish up and down the country.
And the eight-legged soccer soothsayer was spot on Wednesday, as Carlos Puyol's header shattered Germany's dreams of winning their fourth World Cup.

Two plastic boxes, one with a German flag and one with a Spanish, were lowered into Paul's tank at an aquarium in western Germany, each with a tasty morsel of food inside. The box which Paul opens first is adjudged to be his predicted winner. But with classic fickleness, German fans turned against their beloved octopus after he forecast a Spanish win. According to "Der Western" daily paper, there have been "a host of comments on Facebook, Twitter ... suggesting Paul should be fried, barbequed or turned into a seafood salad or paella." "Others wanted to throw him into the shark tank," the paper reported on its website

"Walangila is an entrepreneur and produces a local drink called 'Rutuku'. In the photo she is bravely raising her arm. She is an excellent customer of the Uamsho credit association, and is a 44 year old widowed mother of three.

'Rutuku' is an alcoholic beverage made from a mixture of fermentations and manioc flour, corn, sorghum etc that are heated to over 180 degrees C, then passed through a flask connected to a chimney outlet made locally. The refined drops are then collected in a flask and cooled in order to create a strong whiskey-like taste that is appreciated greatly by her customers.

Recommended: "Black Friday" short from the Toy Story BD. I see it as a tale of redemption via resorting to ones own instincts. The film makers describe how they got sucked into the Disney system, and lost their way trying to deal with three layers of production notes, and calls to make the story and characters "edgy". The short concludes with a clip from their initial story reel. It's bad to the point of being painful to watch. Under pressure from Disney to shut the whole thing down, they spent two weeks in a frenzy to storyboard the movie afresh.

never been a huge louis ck fan. his hbo sitcom a few years back was watchable but not exceedingly so. for some reason all the top comedians cite him when they are asked who is the best stand-up comedian. dont know if that is some sort of groupthink or if he appeals on the level of craft which is lost on me. but he has a new show which debuts tonight at 11 on fx and has received positive reviews as far as ive seen. so crank up your tivo and give it a whirl.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

July 1 - August 13, 2010
Opening Reception: Thursday, July 1, 6 - 8 pm

North Room: Michelle Segre

Michelle Segre will exhibit two new mixed media sculptures in the North Room. In an effort to strip down her work and let the materials inside emerge to play a more prominent role, Segre exposes the armatures and surfaces of her sculptures, recycling parts of old works and test pieces accumulated over time, and incorporating them within new sculptures. The results are unexpected combinations of forms which hover in the balance between spontaneity and pre-meditation. Using papier-mâché, wire, rocks, plasticene, and other simple materials, she creates gestural abstractions that are both haphazardly composed and rationally determined.

This will be Michelle Segre's third show at the gallery. Her work was recently seen in the exhibitions Slough and The Visible Vagina at David Nolan Gallery, New York.

Derek Eller Gallery is located at 615 West 27th Street, between 11th and 12th Avenues. Summer hours are Tuesday - Friday from 11am - 6pm. For further information or visuals, please contact the gallery at 212.206.6411 or visit www.derekeller.com
