mocking Mondrian

The surface of One: Number 31, 1950 was puzzling. Unlike Full Fathom Five, the 1947 painting in which Pollock had embedded nails, buttons, and keys, and other objects, the inclusions in One: Number 31, 1950 (like the fly that apparently settled in the black paint and got stuck there) seem the result of chance. More curious were the areas inconsistent with Pollock’s style—fussily applied, in tiny brushstrokes. This “spurious overpainting,” as Coddington puts it, was evidently added by an enigmatic restorer whose identity remains unknown. Judging by photographs, conservators date the additions to some time between 1962 and ’68.

after watching the first three episodes gonna give my seal of approval to showtime's Masters of Sex mostly because i like the cast theyve assembled including michael sheen, lizzy caplan and beau bridges. curious to see if they can keep the sex interesting, so to speak.

nate silver's first espn post at his temporary home on grantland. wont seem quite so weird when he has his own url but it still highlights the incongruity between 538 and espn as brands though grantland is the unofficial home of stat geekery on espn.

I'm talking about the beards, of course. Beards so outrageous and outlandish and inimitable that people aren't even trying to grow them. They're just sticking them on. The Red Sox merchandise shops are selling fake beards that you can wear during games. They're more dye-job Gandalf than Jonny Gomes, but they get the point across: You're one of them.
