Now that they’re Disney owned, this ABC special may mostly amount to promos for the movies, nevertheless: Marvel Comics 75th Anniversary tonight at 9:00 EST.

$299 portable outdoor pizza oven. Pretty interesting. Reviews say temps over 900 degrees no problem. And heats up fast. I'm thinking this would be perfect way to sear steaks when they come out of the sous vide, which is a summer time staple for us in CT. My current method (have I described this before?) modified from an Alton Brown idea, is to fill a BBQ chimney up with hardwood charcoal, let it get super hot, and then just place the whole thing down on top of my steaks resting in a cast iron pan (so the steaks are in the small bottom cavity of the chimney where the paper goes when you start it). Super hot coals are right on top of the steaks. Does a pretty good job but a) no way is it 900 degrees, and b) you get ash falling onto the steaks, and c) you can only do 2 smallish steaks at a time. The Uuni might be better. And I could make pizzas too.

got a working valve installed on the primary radiator in my apartment because the previous one was leaking down to the floor below and suddenly i can control the heat for the first time in 10 years. looking forward to not sweltering all winter long.

notes on the death of the network sitcom.

was somewhat skeptical prior to watching outlander, a fantasy romance period drama set in 18th century scotland. but i was pleasantly surprised. the conceit is that a woman from post ww2 england gets cast back in time via a pagan henge-like portal and must navigate her way through an alien society and all the pitfalls it presents while trying to make her way back to her future existence. could be pretty hokey especially if they lard on the romance but they manage to keep that mostly on the back burner. its no game of thrones but agreeable enough to binge through in a couple of days. and while there are only eight episodes at present, there are eight more in the spring and another thirteen already on order after that. oh, its on starz for starters.

there isnt a new sitcom this fall that has made any impact but i finally got around to the fx show youre the worst that aired this summer and i am giving it my trademarked two thumbs up. dont believe me? then listen to what this professional tv watching person has to say and then just ignore us both.

torturous timbers match tonight with 22 shot on goal but no score. and we missed the wedding which happened two sections over. we were a bit too close to the timbers army and after the ref didn't call a handball against the other team at the end, ryley and his buddy got caught in a beer shower.
