its that time of year again. yes, you guessed it, im saying goodbye to my oldest still in use t-shirt. the oldest t-shirt in my collection is, of course, my 1977 giorgio chinaglia soccer camp t-shirt in a sky blue but this one is nearly as special as it is the last of the first batch of american apparel t-shirts i bought from an old jewish-owned t-shirt wholesaler storefront formerly on grand st just east of orchard. thats right. you know the one. schmedricks or something. think it was 2005 or so and they were about $7 bucks a pop versus $18 in the american apparel store a half mile away or so on houston. fuck you, perv guy! i won! you all know who i am talking about. but this is also an extra special occasion as it marks the first time i bought ordinary t-shirts in bulk (hanes undershirts notwithstanding) which i am surprised their has been no holiday to comemmorate. but the beastie boys just got that corner of ludlow & rivington named after them so i probably have another six years or so before my time arrives. the campaign begins forthwidth! i will have to admit it outlasted its other brethern by being my least favorite color option and sat for years unused on the shelf along with the violet j crew t-shirts and the itchy northface one. although years later we grew close, it might have even become my favorite of the bunch primarily because i have forgotten the rest. not true, navy & black & umber or especially you, kelly green. ill never forget you. never. so pour one at for ash brown, it might not actually be that color but im too lazy to get up and match it at the moment.... because i am so broken up at losing a friend, nay, my best friend.

Structures can be seen, examined and created, but they can also be ignored, changed and destroyed. Every structuralism that studies structures always emphasises the whole over individual sections (the whole is greater than the sum of its parts), with a crucial role ascribed to the organisation of structures and the functional relationships between their elements (constituent parts). The same principle forms the basis of Hermann Haken’s (1927) synergetics1 and my fractal analysis2 of structures in quantitative linguistics – which, like the majority of structuralist movements, was preceded by Swiss linguist and semiotician Ferdinand de Saussure (1857–1913). returning my air conditioner today. there was some high pitched rattle that had developed and it was within the 30 days that amazon would take it back so i swung into action. that primarily involved negotiating for an hour via chat to india in an effort to exchange for a new model at the same price (unclear at the moment if i was actually was successful) and procuring shipping labels, a box, bubble wrap and tape. i was worried about carrying the extra large box on the subway at near rush hour but was gifted with a near empty m train from home depot on 23rd st.
but now im actively anxious as i await the doorbell as i have since i went out around 1130 when the ups truck arrived. i managed to slide the old a/c down to the ground floor and my new a/c was in the truck but the ups guy didnt want to take it until the truck was less encumbered. and i without dolly hadnt brought the 85 lb package to the truck nor was i interested in carrying away the new one.
so i am at the mercy of the delivery guy. i assume he will attempt a delivery but im never sure he wont forget or fail in some way. also, i left the a/c by the door and i doubt it will somehow disappear into the bowels of chinatown but there is always that possibility. so lots of unnecessary anxiety just waiting waiting waiting to finish this task which then wont be finished until amazon honors the claims of an office drone half a lifetime away.

Artist Frank Stella’s abstract synagogues on display in Poland
The works are from his Polish Village series produced in the 1970s. He embarked on that project after he was inspired by a 1959 book by Polish architects Maria and Kazimierz Piechotka entitled “Wooden Synagogues.” The exhibition also features photographs of the synagogues by Szymon Zajczyk, a Jewish photographer and art historian who was killed in the Holocaust.

"marinate it in a decent Japanese soy sauce (Yamasa) watered down a little or Japanese straight soba soup base (Tsuyu). Shirakiku is a good brand and available at the Jap. markets. Then saute in a combination of sesame oil and veg/light olive oil with some garlic, pepper and greens of choice (some really dense greens may need to be par-boiled a little first). Then add a little tsuyu. Serve on rice or add just cooked soba noodles to the pan in the end and salute a little more, making it kind of like a yaki-soba." I have a whole chicken soaking hlf way up in soy sauce with some water, chopped lemon grass, crushed garlic, grated ginger in the fridge. will flip a couple of thimes before cooking.
my go to bbq chicken recipe is to take a parted whole chicken and marinate it in commercial italian salad dressing (paul newman) and grill it up. here they take it to stage two with a balsamic glaze and grated parm oven toasting.

wow. i know nobody cares much about basketball but the knicks are officially the worst team in the nba with a 5 - 32 record and a 12 game losing streak. and tonight they made themselves worse by trading off two decent though not especially useful players in their current state and receiving very little in return, primarily players they can cut and save 20 million dollars from a lost season. next year they will have 30 million in salary cap space to offer, assuming they can find a use for it which is highly debatable. also, it greatly increases their chances of a top draft pick but unlike the nfl there is still a lottery for draft positions (this year cleveland had only a 4% chance for the top pick but got it) so nothing is guaranteed. one thing for sure, its phil jacksons team next year going forward.
spent the night babysitting a friend who has come down with a somewhat debilitating case of marital discord. two things we learned: 1) my years of not keeping up with my intergender studies has diminished my capacity to provide useful advice on such matters beyond suggesting they should seek professional guidance. 2) an ashtray full of cigarettes in the morning smells worse than i remember.

argentina v. netherlands seems like a more difficult match up to predict than yesterdays though im sure no one expected the drubbing that brasil endured. ill vote with my heart and take argentina though the loss of playmaker angel di maria will make messi's task more difficult. their defense was pretty stout in shutting down belgiums many attacking options but none of which were as decisive and determined as arjen robben has been for the dutch. something about an all european final in brasil seems wrong so root for la albiceleste so they can persist only to get mowed down by the germans on sunday.

Joe Coffman is a modern Texan. This means that Mary Sue is a pretty, loving and understanding wife, that his sons Bobby, 6, and Larry, 4, are healthy and happy, that his business is successful (four other branches in Austin, San Antonio, Lubbock and Amarillo), that his ranch-type home is comfortable, with all of the built-ins manufacturers sell these days, that he has a 1963 Oldsmobile Starfire and a 1962 Impala (both convertibles), that his close friends are mostly the ones he grew up with or knew in high school and college. Being a modern Texan also means that Joe Coffman might not recognize a cow pony if it were tied on a leash in his backyard, that he despises Stetson hats, that he likes cashmere sport coats, pin-collar shirts, Las Vegas, playing golf at Colonial Country Club, Barbra Streisand ("Think she can't sing?"), good food, good booze, Barry Goldwater and, more than anything else, the Texas Longhorns.
